Lyckorna var en gång i tiden en anrik kurort i Ljungskile och grundades 1877. Hit kom prominenta sommargäster, gärna med ångbåt, och umgicks i de pampiga sommarvillorna som klättrar längs sluttningen vid viken. Det var kombinationen av barrskog och havsluft, samt det skyddade läget i sundet mellan Orust och fastlandet, som sades ge klimatet i Ljungskile dess speciella karaktär.
 
Under flera decennier under 1900-talet var tennisturneringar den stora begivenheten på Lyckorna och till och med Björn Borg spelade här som ung. Som tennisort var Lyckorna känt som nummer tre i Sverige efter Stockholm och Båstad.
 
Ljung var förr namnet på socknen där Lyckorna låg och ordet kile betyder vik; därigenom fick orten sitt namn Ljungskile. Ön som träffas av morgonens första strålar på bilden heter Ljungsholmen.

Lyckorna was once a noble health resort in Ljungskile and was founded in 1877. Here came prominent summer guests, preferably with a steamboat, and socialized in the magnificent summer villas that climb the hillside by the bay. It was the combination of coniferous forest and sea air, as well as the protected location in the strait between Orust and the mainland, which was said to give the climate in Ljungskile its special character.

For several decades during the 20th century, tennis tournaments were the big event at Lyckorna and even Björn Borg played here as a young man. As a tennis location, Lyckorna was known as number three in Sweden after Stockholm and Båstad.

Ljung was formerly the name of the parish where Lyckarna lay and the word kile means bay; thereby the town got it's name Ljungskile. The island that meets the morning's first sun rays in the picture is called Ljungsholmen.
